Still have questions?
Here are some common questions and concerns, along with our responses:
I don’t feel qualified to help people with addictions (or their loved ones).
All you need is the desire to help and a willingness to organize an AFIRE group in your parish or congregation. AFIRE will provide you with everything you need, and we are always here to answer any questions you may have.
If you prefer, we will come to facilitate the program for you at no cost! Contact us for details.
I’m not sure that there is a need for this type of ministry in my parish or congregation.
Trust us, there is a need in every single parish and congregation. We’ve done the research, and statistics show that 1 in 4 people are in some way impacted by addictions. We would argue that the number is probably even higher and that we are all impacted in some way (although we may be unaware of it). Research has also shown that people are too ashamed to reach out for help in their churches because of the stigma. By simply starting an AFIRE ministry, you will already be helping to alleviate some of the shame and shatter the stigma.
How do I approach my pastor with this?
We will provide you with the materials you need to convince your pastor that this ministry is extremely important, and to show him that the Church has been calling for this type of ministry for decades.

You may also let your pastor know that the AFIRE leader’s manual has been granted a bishop’s imprimatur, which means that it has been reviewed by the Catholic Church and officially approved for printing.
